I read about it in the "Best Careers 2009" on USnews and it sounds like the coolest thing ever! But how do you become one? Anyone here has any experience with it?

The only thing that I know is that Architecture and Landscape Architecture are not the same major. for architecture, students usually either go for a 5 yr BArch or a 6/7 yr. M.Arch. For Landscape Architecture, I think a BS in Landscape Architecture is all you need. maybe if you google landscape architecture, you might get some of the good schools and read up about their programs.

cal poly slo has a good landscape program…its almost like botany with an emphasis on design…its totally an awesome and fun career choice, I’d say def. look into it.

Great website for those interested in Landscape Architecture: [American Society of Landscape Architects - Home](http://www.asla.org) or the American Society of Landscape Architecture’s website. It has a link with all of the LAAB (Landscape Arch Accreditation Board) schools and whether they are a BSLA or BLA. Most of the programs we looked at were 5 yr pre-professional BLA programs. (S is a very happy “'scaper” at Virginia Tech). He is very content with his choice to go into this field and has said that he feels that it will allow him to pursue a wide array of interests once he graduates.

I will warn you, though, it is a pretty intense major with many, many hours devoted to design and a heavy commitment to the sciences, esp. horticulture/ecology/geology. He hasn’t had much free time this year and has lamented (just once or twice fortunately) about seeing his hallmates going out to play ultimate when he has to head to the studio. Hope this helps and good luck to you!

I studied Landscape Architecture at Rutgers New Brunswick (NJ) a number of years ago. (However, I did not complete the requirements of the program but rather switched to Environmental Planning.)

Landscape Architecture is currently one of the Environmental Planning and Design options at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences at Rutgers New Brunswick.

WUSTL will be admitting students to a new graduate program in Landscape Architecture program for Fall, 2010.

[Master of Landscape Architecture | Sam Fox School](http://www.arch.wustl.edu/artarch/gradarch/master-landscape-architecture)

Also, Design Intelligence ranks the programs.
