Language Class Placement

I was wondering how incoming freshman get placed in language classes. For example I want to take French courses my first year and I was just looking at the ones that are offered and of course I have no idea what level to sign up for, and they say it's by placement test or permission of instructor. So I looked at the dates of the placement tests and they already happened. What am I supposed to do to sign up for a French class in the Fall semester? I have a French SAT II score and I will have an AP French score...will they just look at that? Do they do more placement test in the fall?

The placement tests that were just held were intended for those wanting to place out of summer language classes. There will be another round of placement tests closer to fall, usually during orientation week, to determine eligibility for the fall language classes.

Yes, the placement tests for fall/winter French classes take place just before classes begin. Be prepared to work hard. The French classes have a reputation for being challenging.

Okay, thank you! So when I register should I just register for what I feel would be appropriate and then if my placement test shows otherwise I’ll just move into a different class?
