Language classes and placement test?

Do I have to pass a placement test to take accelereated an accelerated language course at UT? It says on their site that "Heritage Speakers" must take the course but does not really say anything about placement test. Should I take it during orentation just to be safe? If I register for the test now but find out I do not need it, can I opt out of testing? Will I still be billed? Also, for someone that has pior knowledge of the language but is not completely fluent UT language classes should be pretty doable right?

To get an accurate answer about what you need to do to register for a particular language class, try emailing the person listed as the “undergraduate advisor” for the department that offers the language.

fyi, yes you can take the placement test later

and fyi, my advisor sent me an email regarding changes to the language courses offered for the upcoming fall semester due to budget cuts on the University. For example, turkish courses will be a 6 credit course in the fall as opposed to a 5 credit course . can you imagine that? taking a 6 credit course.

COLA is acknowledging that Turkish is brutal. A five-credit class and a one-credit discussion section?

yep, Turkish is brutal. I wonder how that is going to work too. But i will be taking spanish.
