I am a transfer student in Revelle and I need to take language classes to satisy the lower divsion GE's--Are the language classes difficult?

I ask because I am an engineering major who needs to catch up on prereqs. I know they typically advise newcomers to take 3 courses the first quarter, but I was planning on taking 4.

Here is my schedule:

Phys 2A
ECE 15
ECE 25
LISP 1b/bx

Any thoughts? How time consuming is the language course?

Each class is given units based off of the amount of time that you have to put into (or supposedly thats how it is).

With a language course, its 5 units, which means that it is supposed to be time consuming. By that, I mean you’re going to have to go to class 5 days a week, all of which are usually mandatory along with putting in the work outside of class

How time consuming the LISP class is depends on your level of proficiency in Spanish already, and how fast you tend to pick non-native languages up. Somehow, my White and Mexican friends first year learned to read and write in Japanese much better than me even though I had a few years of formal classes when I was younger. They really had an incentive to learn since–well–all they seemed to do in their free time was watch Anim

japanese was a nice break from all the science/programming/mathi i took my first year, although it was a TON of work… (class 6 times a week was a pain, im not someone whos always in attendance)

@ uchopeful: if you are worried about work load, id say to take the language courses NOW while youre taking lower div/prereqs that you are saying you need to catch up on. Otherwise youll just hate it later when you need to be constantly focused on your major
