Language Immersion in Spain: summer before college

I have another thread about language immersion, but it's cluttered and I feel my slightly different intentions warrant this new thread.

What are some of the best programs for studying abroad in Spain? I would like to stay with a Spanish family and have some sort of instruction-- this might be via classes at a university/language school or some sort of distinct language program.
I'm also partial to Barcelona.

Here's a long list of programs in Spain. I've looked at a few of them, but I don't know which ones are particularly good. There also may be better programs outside of that list.

Got your PM…let’s see what I can do…

The three programs I know well are Global Works, Experiment in International Living, and a program through Tufts which is not useful for you because it’s only French.

I can’t really be of too much use because Global Works and EIL do not do classes. However, my sister did the Tufts program and stayed with a family and loved it. So maybe look for another US university that has a HS program?

Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

No, you were helpful. I’ll look into some of that!

Anyone else?

Hey Keellota
I don’t know much about other programs, but I did EIL in Australia a while back, so I know a bit about them. They do have two programs running in Spain that have language classes. All of their programs have homestays and so it seems like they might be worth checking out. You can go to EIL’s website and take a look at hteir Spain programs. [Spain - The Experiment in International Living - high school summer abroad programs](http://www.experimentinternational.org/SPAIN.cfm) I think programs 4 and 6 are what you’re looking for.
Hope that helps.

I have no advice concerning language programs, but are you sure you really want Barcelona? Yes, it’s a wonderful city, and the beach is right there. But, many people prefer to speak Catalan, rather than Spanish. Catalan is not a dialect of Spanish, but a totally separate language. Perhaps a different location, where Spanish is the only local language spoken, would be a better choice.

hey keellota! I’m new here but i went on an EIL trip to spain last summer! Everything about it was absolutly amaaaaaaazing and i would definitly reccomend it! I took two weeks of classes in cordoba, a city in andalusia and then we did a two week homestay in a small town a couple hours away. The program was called Language Immersion in Andalucia i believe. My group and i became sooo close and they are some of my best friends now and i’ve even visited them in other states. Going to Spain was definitely the best decision i ever made! do it!

I apologize for finding this question so late but I hope I am in time to help. The Spanish government has a cultural arm called the Instituto Cervantes. On their website is a list of the programs in Spain that they recommend, in cities and towns throughout the country: [Learn Spanish in Spain. The Instituto Cervantes database where you can find language schools and Spanish language courses in Spain](http://eee.cervantes.es/en/index.asp)

I know of two further excellent but pricey programs that offer language immersion, both in Barcelona. One is offered by Oxbridge [Oxbridge Academic Programs - La Academia de Espaa](http://www.oxbridgeprograms.com/la-academia-de-espana/) and the other by Columbia University.[The Barcelona Experience | School of Continuing Education](http://ce.columbia.edu/The-Barcelona-Experience)

Buena suerte!
