Hi, i have a question. I am currently a sophomore taking latin 3, and in 9th grade i took french 1 as well as latin 2. The reason i couldn't take french 2 was because it didn't fit in my schedule. I really want to continue both languages, however. Is it advisable to take french 2 over the summer online and then take french 3 junior year? That means in the summer between junior and senior years, i would take latin 4 online. Then in senior year, I would have room to take the highest level of both french and latin classes my school has. Would breaking up the years I learn languages heart my college admission chances, and is it better to just take up french again in college? Or would this work.. Thanks!

Wait, let me get this straight…you’re going to have four years each of two languages and you’re asking if that’s going to hurt you in college admissions?

I would be more concerned with learning the language online and over the summer. Language learning is really a participatory experience, and part of learning language is the time you have spent practicing the language, which isn’t something that can be made up over time. Additionally, I would be worried about forgetting the language because you are not working with it consistently and continuously. If you’re set on doing both languages, is there another elective you can skip or can you take other classes online?

I took two languages for four years. It does not matter whether you choose to break it up. I would try and do what you see fit for languages. Languages can be tricky subjects to balance into your day, especially if they are totally unrelated (french and chinese). You don’t have to take Latin 4 between Junior and Senior year, just get caught up and french and ride the system through, unless you want to and feel comfortable with skipping another level.

Thanks for the responses everyone!
Just one thing, I am pretty sure that my school does not give credit for the online courses. They are just a way to make up the material i skipped. So on my transcript, it would say:
9th grade: French 1, Latin 2
10th grade: Latin 3
11th grade: French 3
12th grade: AP French, AP Latin (hopefully…)
would i be penalized for that??
also, I cannot take any other courses online for credit…

Hi, can i just get a bit more clarification?
so would it look bad if i broke up my years of languages (above post)?
i would have 6 years total, 3 of each. the two online courses would not show up on my transcript.
this will be ok, right?
