Hello,
I’m currently a freshman enrolled in both Spanish III and German III. Course selection is coming up. I have already tripled my school’s language requirement, so I was thinking about dropping one. I was going to drop Spanish and take German next year, however, less than 10 kids signed up for German IV, so there’s a good chance it won’t happen. Taking German IV online is a possibility; however, I don’t know how good the quality would be.
So my questions are:
- How do online language classes work (in my case through Michigan Virtual), and are they effective?
- If I were to drop both languages, how bad would that be in terms of admissions? I know some colleges say the want four years IN high school of ONE language.
- Could I make up for dropping both by taking the German AP test by self-studying and getting a 5? I have the motivation, but I am just not sure about an online course.
- I am also doubling up on AP Bio / Chem and will also (if I pass a test) go into AP Calculus BC next year. If I don't, it will be honors pre-calc. Would this advanced math/science make up for lack of language?
Thanks for taking your time in answering my questions.
