Language/Linguistics Programs

I've been flipflopping over major ideas for a long time now, and I have the feeling that I want to study languages or linguistics. However, I have no idea what schools have good programs in them. Any suggestions on which schools to take a look at?

I've got the same problem, except I need art history AND linguistics. Your first thing should be to find schools that have linguistics as a major, then narrow it down from there.
It's kinda hard to find a school with linguistics that will fit your stats, location preferences, etc.
For the record, I'm applying to BU and UMN, but I know that NYU has a program as does Carleton and obviously MIT.
UMass Amherst has a really good program too if you can get past the crazy partying and all that.

Depending on your stats, the top two schools for linguistics are usually regarded as UMass Amherst and Massachusettes Institute of Technology. Big disparage between the two, admissions wise, no?

MIT has the best linguistics program, I believe. Noam Chomsky is the professor there. I personally thing he's a pile of excrement, but others dont. :P He is regarded as the foremost intellectual in the Western World. UMass is top notch too, and many linguistics majors there go on to study at MIT for doctoral work.

Penn is up there as well

Disregarding Chomsky's polticial views which are extreme to those whom are far left, he is an excellent researcher. His theories have revolutionized linguistics. There is too much to say about his contributions to linguistics. Now his politics, I completely dissagree with him while being a liberal.
