language placement test

yeah, I just took it (para espanol) and it says I qualify for linguistics 1C...what is that?

how do we know if we hav to take this test?

it depends on your college's general education requirements and whether or not you want to continue on with a foreign language. If you do and you have not passed/or taken the AP exam, scored well on the SAT subject tests, and taken a transferable community college course then you should take the online placement test.

i dont want to continue on with a foreign language and im in sixth college, so, should i take it? And are you required to take this if u might take a linguistics class?

Here's the site with Sixth's GE requirements: http://sixth.ucsd.edu/GeneralEducationRequirements06-07.html

And yes, I would think you'd need to take the placement exam if you are considering a linguistics class (although I'm not sure exactly...)

I've seen it somewhere, but can anyone remind me what website we log on to to take it ?

bump

any answer to the orig question?

It's a course. You should check out their catalog for more details.
I didn't know what it was before either because I qualified for 1D and some kind of literature.

this probably won't help, but if you want to MAJOR in linguistics you have to take the exam because foreign language is required for that major.

hmm do you get course credit if you do well on the test, even if you don't go on to pursue the language?

You don't get credit I believe. It's for placement in the language so don't take it if you don't want to pursue it. You should take the proficiency test instead.
