I just wanted to ask, how proficient do you really have to be in ur target language? I plan on concentrating in Arabic. I am perfect at reading and writing, but I'm not so good at speaking. Although I can speak Arabic with a perfect accent, my grammar is not as good as a native speaker. On a scale of 10, I would give it a 6 or 7.

Basically, to what extend should I be capable of speaking the language ?

Hmm... I think you just have to pass a certain benchmark in their eyes on a test, either the SAT II, or if Arabic isn't offered by the SAT II (I don't know much about Arabic and the SAT II, sorry), the Huntsman Program has their own language tests that they will send out to you if you ask for one. Presumably, if Arabic is one of the possible languages for Huntsman, then they'll have a test for you if the SAT II isn't available.

If I recall correctly, you live in an Arabic-speaking country. If your only issue is that your grammar isn't perfect, you will be way beyond the proficiency level required for Huntsman. Especially for Arabic, an important language but one for which no U.S.-based high school student could possibly achieve that level of proficiency without being, in effect, a native speaker. What I don't know, and others may, is whether it will count against you that you are concentrating in a language that is spoken where you live. While your language skills will be way higher than necessary, it's a little more impressive when a high school student goes out and acquires a language he or she doesn't need for or encounter in daily life.

Although I live in the Middle East, I am actually from South Asia and none of my relatives are Arab. I can speak five languages but Arabic is the only language offered by the Huntsmn program that I know, and have studied during high school.

So I am not a native speaker and not an Arab, I am basically a South Asian, studying at an American school in the Middle East :P

I hope that doesnt hurt my chances b/c I've been preparing myself for this program since midle school.
