is it the same (6 semesters)?

none at all

I thought that all students, including engineering, have to fulfill the 6 semesters? If you are right, you have made me extremely happy. Now I just have to find a way out of chemistry but I doubt that'll happen.

Engineers have such an unfair luxury!

Engineers have no language requirement, but some engineers choose to take language classes to fulfill their humanities requirement.

oh god, no way. Engineers are completely separate from the language requirement. But yes, some do take language classes as their electives.

what does this language requirement mean? is it language other than English?

yes. you either have to take (or place out of, APs, SAT IIs or a placement test) 6 semesters of another language, or three semesters of language + three semesters of another language, or three semesters of language + three semesters of culture courses in that language's culture.
