Language requirement question

Hey, it says that if you have a 5 on advanced placement language, you can place out of the language requirement. I got a 5 on the chinese test, but on the website it says that a 5 on "German, French (language or literature), Italian, Spanish (language or literature), or Latin (either Latin Literature or Latin: Vergil)" fulfills the requirement.

Im wondering if people know if the chinese and japanese test fulfill this requirement (maybe theyre not listed above cuz theyre new tests or something).

bump? :(, does anyone know?

I’m pretty sure the Chinese won’t count. I remember reading somewhere that the listed languages are the only ones whose score of 5 will fulfill the requirement. Sorry :(

anyone else?

cuz on the same link, it has a list of what ap tests will or will not be given credit. all the language tests are listed as (can be used for advanced standing), but chinese and japanese arent listed anywhere (not even as “cant be used” or whatever)

otherwise i need to start studying spanish massively again to take the june test -.-

Does it say anything about the subject tests? Because I had read that if you get over 700 that also counts, but I’m not sure if that includes Chinese, sorry.

it says

"All students are required to complete the foreign language requirement by the end of sophomore year. This can be achieved by:

* a score of 700 or higher on an SAT II language test (taken before matriculation at Harvard)

 • a score of 5 on an Advanced Placement language test (before matriculation) "

and on this page it doesnt specify what languages that includes. im just worried how chinese isnt listed in the list i had earlier.

lol, i never took the chinese sat II cuz its so ridiculously easy from a natives perspective (not that the AP test is hard either). ugh

call the admissions office?

bump, does anyone know?

i believe you can take a placement test on campus in the fall to place out of it?

there is a placement test for chinese as well as bunch of other languages, but im trying to figure out if the ap test works, which i cant seem to fully establish based on the information i see on the website.

not the chinese nor the japanese test are even listed in the advanced standing matrix that they have (which for some tests it says specifically gains no credit), so my assumption is that it hasnt been updated recently
