language requirement

has anybody taken the language requirement or placement test, could you guys please speak about your experiences.

I'm a Communication major with a three-year language requirement. I was placed into Spanish III when I took the test (I thought it was difficult), but since I've been taking Spanish since eighth grade, I really wanted to test out of the requirement. Spanish III is really easy here...much easier than AP Spanish IV in high school.

My daughter had four years of H.S. Spanish and also found the placement test a challenge...she was also placed in Spanish III so she just has to finish out her current semester and she's done. She hasn't found the class overly difficult, you just have to stay on top of the studying on a daily basis so you don't fall behind.

useful tidbit...engineers (except for comp sci majors) don't have a language requirement...i've taken four years of spanish and did pretty well, so to not worry about it is kinda nice ;)

I took the Latin placement test and placed into second semester Latin. I'm finishing up my requirement this semester. For those who have taken Latin you know that you get familiar with authors and their words, so that was the challenge on the placement test for me, I had taken poetry, the test was all on prose. I took four years of high school Latin, and I've honestly found the language classes here really boring.

I took the Korean language test which was a piece of cake. It was really easy and I basically cruised right through it around 10-20 minutes. I got out of my requirement but is thinking about taking another language anyway...

do bio majors have a language requirement?

Yea, unfortunately.

Some that do not have a requirement include Business and Policy,Planning, and Development (the two that I know of)

Film and engineering don't have language requirements either, although computer science majors in the engineering school do.

Film Majors do have a language requirement.

BTW, only vanilla CS requires the language. Computer Engineering/Computer Science, Computer Science/Business Administration, and Computer Science (Games) all don't require language as far as I know.
