Does Wes have one?

Or, more specifically, do the English or government departments require a certain # of semesters of a foreign language?

I spent 2 hours on Wes website and still am confused...plus, the notes I took when I visited originally junior year are mixed up with my notes from other schools.

No! There are no required classes at all! Moreover, the General Education Expectations (which are optional) don't include anything about languages... languages fall under "Humanities and the Arts", which includes everything from English to Studio Art to Music, so if you don't want to do language you definitely don't have to (although the classes are great, so I'd recommend it!).

Thanks so much! Yea, I kind of sucked with Spanish in high school...dropped it sophomore year. Thus, I had a great fear that there was some hidden requirement.

The General Education Expectations are optional?
But surely they aren't too difficult to complete, right? I mean, they seem pretty (for lack of better word) general.

Yeah, GenEds are optional. You only have to do them if:

-you want Phi Beta Kappa
-your major requires it

And, no, they're really easy to do because you have so much free choice and there are so many options. Such broad categories gives you a lot of leeway to select things you're interested in.

you are expected to take advantage of the wide range of courses that the university has to offer. hence the "liberal arts" education
