i'm applying EA to georgetown to the school of arts and science, but i'm applying under the lanuage and linguistics
i'm also interested in doing international relations (i.e. SFS), but i'm applying to languages because it's supposedly easier to get into and because i have equal interest in languages and IR

can i eventually do both schools?

No, you can take classes in both, but you can't double major between two colleges. It is possible to transfer into SFS, but that is really an inglorious way of doing it. If you want to do IR apply to SFS, if you want linguistics apply to the college. If you're not sure apply to the college. If you want both apply somewhere else. Don't apply to the college and then try to transfer in, that's really ****ed up for the people who applied and got rejected from SFS. Do it how it's supposed to be done.

I've heard that the FLL program is pretty hard to get into as well...

When you check which major you would like to go into on the application, are you then bound to that major? Do they take into consideration which major is on the application? What are the most popular majors (on the application) for SFS? Sorry for all the questions, but it would be greatly appreciated if they could be answered!

No, you are not bound to that major, however you are bound to that school unless you can transfer. For instance, you could switch from a math to a biology major, but you could not switch from a math to IR major without transferring to SFS. You are NOT guaranteed to be accepted as a transfer. No, they do not consider intended major for SFS (unless you apply for SFS and put like bio major). Most popular major is international politics, but just put down what you want. I do not think it is gonna effect your admission and you shouldn't really lie on your application like that. Plus, if you put something obscure, they could ask you about it in your interview.

so i should just forget georgetown because i want to do languages (like major in them) and do IR? that seems unfair, especially considering how many people like to double major in a language and IR (in general)

Well even in the SFS, there are certificate programs, which is basically a minor, so if you can deal with that small compromise, you can definitely do Gtown. Also, you have to realize that Gtown's language programs are phenomenal. Even if you were in the SFS majoring in some IR related field, you would still have a lot of excellent language classes to choose from. On the flip side, you could take a language major through FLL and still take a lot of IR related classes and have the opportunities of DC.

I guess it's not entirely fair, but nothing - and nowhere - is entirely fair and perfect.

Yea, I mean you have to become proficient in a language to graduate from SFS anyway, and I know many people become proficient in more than one foreign language.

well, i have equal interest in languages and IR, so i think i will apply in languages b/c i think the acceptance rate is slightly higher than that of SFS

plus i can do IR in grad school

You can always do a double major (they're pretty popular in the College): Language and Poli Sci with an IR concentration; you end up taking mostly the same classes as SFS kids do, only without the restrictive core and name on the diploma.
