Hey, I have 2 questions:

Language classes: How are the language classes at UW? How are they any different than high school? For example, I am thinking of continuing with French and starting Japanese, and Chinese. Is it possible to take more than one foreign lang. course a year because I want to lear more than one.

How is the credibility of the Jackson School of International Studies? DOes it have good credibility?

Thank you

Depends on the language and the teacher of course, but there are a wide variety of languages here. Most languages are just a single class of 20 or so that meets every day, but the most popular, like Chinese and Japanese, have separate lectures and quiz sections.

It is possible to take two languages per year (I’m doing it now), three is pushing it unless you’re going to be a language or linguistics major because you’ll have not much more room in your schedule for anything else. 3 languages is 15 credits, most people take 15 credits per quarter and your entire quarter will be just language classes.

From what I’ve heard the Jackson School is one of the best international studies programs in the country. I still need to do more research on the school myself, but it seems like a fantastic program with many opportunities here.

My husband took both japanese and korean at the same time @ the uw with no problem. It just depends on how much of a knack you have for picking up languages and how dedicated you are.

Thanks guys. This helps :)
