Languages over summer

I plan on taking First Year Arabic I in first session and then First Yr Arabic II in second session. Those two classes are the only two I will be taking. (total of 12 credits)

Has anyone taken a language at UT over the summer?
Is it too difficult?

It sounds as if it would be difficult, however pickaprof info might make you feel a little less concerned about difficulty. In 506, 69% make an A. In 507, 61% make an A. That is info for the courses taken over the regular semester. I don’t understand why the percentage for A’s is so high. It isn’t like that at all for languages such as Spanish or German (which I’m in now). While it should be difficult, it might not be as bad as you think.

How did you get 12 hours? Are you taking a language lab with them too?

First year Arabic is always 12 hours.

Those percentages sound strange, I would think languages like german and spanish would be easier. The reason I say this is b/c I’m half-persian so I know a little arabic, (mostly farsi though) and it’s really difficult for me. Yet I got straight A’s in Spanish. Go figure.

It is 506 and 507. Why is that always 12 hours?

You need to take the (smaller) conversation sections of the classes.

OK, that was what I asked earlier about a lab required with it.

Are you sure that they are each only a single session of the summer semester? I took Italian (506) during a summer semester and it was the whole thing.

Are you doing Flagship or just your own thing?

And yes, they are each one session for the most part, unless they have a w before the course number in the schedule.
