Hey, I have a question. I'm a freshman and I am planning on studying abroad when I am a Junior (probably Fall semester). However while abroad my school only offers the intermediate Italian class (ITA 153), but I stupidly (with the advice of my advisor :) will have completed both introduction Italian classes this year. How bad would it be to take a year off of Italian and just take it the fall of my Junior year? I'm just kind of ****ed that my advisor told me to start my language, because there are like no freshman in my class only sophomores. Thanks!

Why don't you just keep practicing Italian while you're on your year off? I mean, it's a LANGUAGE that people SPEAK and WRITE and SING in... it's not calculus...

Actually, Willmintonwave, the program at Wake also offers Italian Literature in Italy. Not a whole lot of people tend to take it, but it is offered (or at least was last semester).

You do not have to go through your school to study abroad. If money is a problem check with public schools in your state to see if they offer the Italian program. If money is not a problem you can expand your search to schools outside the state but you will have to pay out of state tuition or you could go through special services like CIEE. A good website to locate programs would be www.studyabroad.com

ginnyvere: are you sure the lit class is not beyond the 215/216 level?

kenshi: yeah, i considered that, but our program in Venice is really awesome. Maybe I will look into BU/NYU though...

I see what you mean, I just looked it up in the Bulletin and it does say that 215 or 216 is a pre-req unless you've got POI. However, I am almost completely certain that none of the people that were in it last semester had taken 215/216, and I am totally certain that at least two of them hadn't. I'm not as sure if it'd count as your literature requirement, but, again, I'm nearly positive.

You should e-mail the head of the program (Dr. Kairoff) to check.

Ok, thanks ginnyvere I appreciate it :)
