Languages you can speak, read, write

A lot of colleges ask this. I'm Chinese, so I'm very fluent in that, and I put it down.

My question is if, say, I've taken five years of French and am taking AP now - can I put that down even though I'm not very fluent? :P

I think I know the answer already, but just wondering.

I don't think so; they can see from your transcripts that you've studied French, and if you're not actually fluent or near-fluent in it, that's all you can show. The exception, obviously, would be situations like one application I had where they asked you what languages you knew and then asked you to rate your proficiency.

thank you :)

Yeah, how does that work?

I, for example, took Latin and Ancient Greek for 6 years (can't speak or write it of course, but I can translate texts very well), French for 5 years (not taking it anymore though), German for 5 years, Dutch (my native language) fluent of course... How should I put this on my app? Can I mention all these languages in the Write, Speak, Read section?

i personally took french for 6 years and spanish for 4 years, but did not mention them in my apps

You don't have to mention it. It will be in your transcript that you took classes. If you studied these languages independently, perhaps you could mention it in additional information or something, in an interview if you have one or a resume if one's required.
