I’ve already submitted my application, but I was wondering if I could send Penn an email telling them about my language proficiencies. I know Hindi and Urdu and can read Arabic. You think an email would be sufficient? Is it too late?

I'm sorry, but I really don't see how that would help you in any way, unless you're applying to Huntsman, in which case your proficiency in Hindi would be required. If you're applying to anywhere else in Penn, forget it.

Hindi and Urdu are almost the same. I mentioned that I can speak bengali along with hindi. I can read arabic but I didn't think it was worthwile to mention. We don't understand it lol.

haha - i can read sanskrit too... just cant understand it.

hindi and urdu are not pretty much the same. conversationally, mebbe, but listen to a newscast in the clear form of those 2 languages and you'll see what i mean. they are really quite different.

yeah, you can converse in hindi and a paki will understand you but if its "shudh" hindi or urdu, i doubt you will catch much more than the gist of it.
urdu has more arabic-sounding syllables and consonant groupings. hindi is sharper, more sanskrit.

i keep this guttery mumbai dialect & marathi accent... its almost embarassing. lol i wanna take hindi at penn to fix that tho

Well, yeah Shudh everything is different. Heck, I can't understand half of what the bengali newscasters say and I have had some formal training in bengali.
