I am probably going to speak 5 languages by the time I apply for collge. How much is this going to help. Does anyone have the average amount of languages spoken at Ivies. Also any further/addtitional information about languages regarding colleges would be appreaiated. Also I'm not planning on majoring in lingustics, but Business. Thanks for any imput.

Do any of your languages use question marks.

Sorry, I just had to get that out of the way. 5 languages will help, but only if you are near fluent in all of them. Having just abstract knowledge of languages doesn't really do much good.

I meant fluently.

(Not to be annoying, but linguisics doesn't have anything to do with the number of languages you speak. Often people are interested in both linguistics and languages, and having knowledge of multiple languages can certainly help with many branches of linguistics, but they are not at all the same thing.)

I know that I merley meant, would it be counted differently. As is I'm not just doing it because I know it will be reuired for my major or something like that.

Yeah, it'll definitely look good on your application.

Thank you for that, pinnipotto, now I don't have to be pedantic about it. =p

To the OP: it would help a little -- as in, it's unique -- but if it isn't a passion that you follow avidly and will continue in college, it won't be as helpful as you'd think. It's interesting, though.
