Lbtg that is a good idea, the first batches are not that great from what I understand. Also by waiting you might be able to get a 64 bit one (that will hopefully run vista eventually)

Also I do realize that Apple isn't trying to become a windows PC vendor - however I was just trying to make it clear that running windows on a macbook pro isn't going to be the same as running windows on a non-efi computer.

well its the same hardware, so it should be the same, except for the two-finger right click, I'd imagine its pretty much normal. No reason for it not to be so.

For a very economical laptop, get a HP DV2025! 1 gig of ram, 100gb harddrive, dual layor dvd burner +-, and an AMD Turion 64 X2 Processor... with 1.6ghz (up to 1600mhz bus)

This laptop is damn good, and it is infact my lightest thus far.

I wont even get into the specs of my desktop, its a god... but if you just need a laptop that can handle heat (maybe not FEAR, but still) Get the dv2025 HP :)

edt: forgot to mention, I got this for 999, so suck that macbook!

yeah both dv2000 n dv6000 r awesome....good config and killer looks!

Tooya, a similarly equipped MacBook (except it has 1.83GHz, that's the minimum) costs only $200 more, and officially supports running Mac OS X.

That "officiall supports running Mac OS X" is useless support. Guess what!!!! The mentioned laptop, officially supports Windows XP! rolls eyes

Its all up to personal prefference. I hate macs, mostly because I am a programmer and a gamer, and macs limit you from many games and from writing some particular languages (and if you are going to tell me you can emulate windows.... thats taking an extra step, just to get windows compatability, just use a windows for gods sakes)

But, all up to personal choice really. You either dig macs or dont, I simply dont.

Name any mainstream language other than C# that cannot be written on a Mac. I'm a programmer, a CS major in fact, and if anything I find that having OS X gives me an advantage over Windows users because of its Unix core, which turns out to be very handy both in and outside of courses.

The "officially supports OS X" part was because I think OS X is the best consumer operating system in existence, and Apple-made computers are the only ones that support it officially. I think that's a major advantage that people overlook when comparing Mac and PC prices. 'Course, you won't think it's an advantage, but oh well.

I think what he was trying to say was that the "official" support for OS X, nowadays because of x86 hardware being used to make apple pc's, is bourne out of a document saying that apple would like it if you only installed this OS on hardware purchased from Apple Corp. This OS X advantage was all fine-and-dandy when they used motorola and ibm chips but now that just isn't the case. It is smart business for Apple to discourage hardware vendors from installing it's software on other computers so os x fans buy hardware from Apple - simple profit protection. I happen to believe that this is just a little fishy - not only because it is based on Unix but also because just a few years ago Apple and many other corporations were whining and crying about how microsoft pushes competitors out of the market. Imagine if microsoft started manufacturing PC's with high markups and then all of a sudden decided that windows could only be used with their hardware. It would be anti-trust city - honestly I bet government lawyers would converge on microsoft faster then I can finish a slice of pizza. I can eat pretty fast if pressured too.

Now with that said OS X is a very good OS - in fact I'd go so far as to say that I'd buy it immediately if it were offered as an OS to be used on my custom built systems and other PC's. Unfortunately I'm not going to buy a 2k system if it only has a 7300GT video card just to get an OS. I did however almost get a macbook.
