I want to get a Macbook Pro for college next year (not this coming year), but I don't know if it will run everything I need for chemical engineering. Would anyone reccommend it? I'm between a 15" and 13". What would you suggest? Thanks to anyone who answers.

To be honest, you will spend more time in the engineering labs, using the lab computers, then your own. So just get something that fits your personal usage.

Well, I think the macbook is fine because I want something that has basic word processing, music software, less virus prone (won’t have to mess with a bunch of anti-virus software), goes online. The basics…

I have a macbook and I think it will work fine since I’m gonna run windows vista on it
just gonna upgrade the memory so everything works a bit faster

If you run XP or vista on a mac, then that’s fine too. Most if not all of the engineering computer programs you will eventually need to use are for windows only.

I’m a chemical engineer, but I never use my personal laptop for schoolwork. Any specialized programs you’ll need (Matlab/Simulink, LabView, Hysis, AutoCad, etc…) are very expensive to by and provided on campus. so It doesn’t really matter what laptop you get. Macs are overpriced and no better than PC. Also engineers usually make fun of mac-users alot, as all macbook users are arts students…

Some schools provide software to students to install on their own computers.
