I'm looking for a laptop for college this fall and am weighing the options. I don't want to get a Mac because they are relatively expensive. Ideally, I would like a 13 or 14 inch screen, and great processor speed (2.4Ghz intel i5, hopefully). I am hoping to keep the price just under $1000. Currently, the two best options seem to be the HP dv4i and the Toshiba Satellite. Any advice?

(I do have a year-old netbook, but it is too small and slow for efficient work.)

why the need for a fast processor? unless you are going to be a math major, you should focus more on RAM and media ports etc…

those two choices are nice thgh…those are very common models for colleges to sell, so maybe you can buy one from the college at a discount?

Just found the Sony CW series, with a 2.5 Ghz i5. Its probably the best buy I’ve seen, with great performance at $900. Plus Sony is at least on par with Toshiba, and I think is higher quality than HP. I’ll probably pick this one up.

I think there may be seasonal discounts as the year goes on.
