Starting in the fall I will be transferring from a branch to the main OU campus for computer engineering. I am looking to buy a new laptop this summer that will last me through the rest of my college years to come. I originally was interested in a macbook pro after seeing how awesome my buddies was but from what I've heard most engineering programs primarily run on windows and I don't think I want to have to deal with running bootcamp all of the time. When it comes to windows laptops I was looking at the HP Envy 14 Beats Edition. I love the sleek design and the red backlit keyboard. I would mostly be using the laptop for programming, internet, facebook, and light gaming. The Envy comes with an i7 quad, 4gb ram, and a 1gb gfx card which is basically everything I'm looking for but I would also like some other suggestions. I haven't completely ruled out a macbook pro yet so I would like to hear thoughts on that too.

ive been wondering the same thing. ive been mainly looking at the same computers as you (in addition to lenovo thinkpad w series). im an engineering major too, although not computer engineering.
