Laptop for Computer Programming Major

Hi, I was looking into going into computer programming (not exactly sure how in depth yet, but a career nonetheless) and i was having a hard time figuring out what i'd need in a laptop. I already know that a comfortable keyboard and bigger screen are almost a must with the amount of code that will be being entered at any given time, just not sure about much else. Wondering if anybody has had this same issue and what type of laptop they went about purchasing. My budget is around $600-700 so i've got a little room to work with. Any suggestions about possible choices or just advice in general would be appreciated. I know my way around computers pretty well, just seems like this is more of a specialized issue. Not looking for the general "laptop for college" thread (i know everyone is extremely tired of it by now), just looking for help finding something specific or gaining some advice. Thanks Alot, Mike.

Well, at the high end of your budget ($700) there are a few laptops at Newegg and Dell where you can get 17.3 inch laptops, which would guarantee you 1600x900 resolution, 500GB Hard drive, 4GB memory and Intel Core i3. As for comfort you could get a mouse instead of using the touchpad.

Here is a 17.3 inch laptop for $679.99:
[Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AS7741-7870 NoteBook Intel Core i3 370M(2.40GHz) 17.3" 4GB Memory 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi Intel HD](<a href=“Are you a human?”>Are you a human?)

If you’re willing to spend less like $500-$600 for a 15.6 inch laptop you can also invest like $100 for a SSD, but I don’t know whether 15.6 inch laptops can fit both drives at once.

I like to program in my free time, and I got a laptop with 1024

If you plan on programming in the comfort of your dorm/apartment, I’d actually suggest a normal resolution laptop and couple it with two 19" desktop monitors (because 19" is relatively cheap) for a great multitasking solution.
