laptop for engineering student

so i don't know too much about laptops.

i've been using my 4-5 yr old laptop (pc) and we got along pretty well. i think i do a pretty good job at maintaining my current laptop, since it revived from its frequent fits quite often. but i am getting a new one for college.

let's say price wouldn't matter,
i don't do anything too crazy with my laptop, just everyday use stuff,
and i do some programming, and will be doing some engineering-y stuff.

which one would you recommend?
please specify the models : D

doesn’t really matter as long as its not a bottom-of-the-line one. discrete graphics is nice but not required since most of your engineering work will be done in a computer lab. just get a dual core and at least 2GB of memory.

specifying models is pointless…there’re just too many. but a few brands to look at are Asus, HP Compaq, Lenovo, Apple, and Fujitsu.

and before someone jumps down my throat about using Apple laptops for engineering, i know plenty of (soon-to-be-graduating) engineers who use them without any trouble.

Go for a Lenovo Thinkpad. Get something in the R series if you don’t want to spend as much money, but are OK with it being slightly heavier. If you want it to be lightweight but still have good performance, the T series is the way to go.

Of course, if price really doesn’t matter, I would recommend the x300, which will set you back about $3k, but is absolutely amazing. Here’s an example of why: [YouTube - Lenovo X300](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hnOCUkbix0)
