Laptop for Engineering?

The common question: Mac or PC? Which is better for UM's engineering program?
Any specific laptops that you recommend?

Engineering programs are usually associated with the pc. However, mostly all the programs (which I don’t think you’ll be willing to buy) are available on CAEN computers, which are readily available for all engineering students at libraries. Thus, most engineering students use their laptops for word processing, email, etc., which are all available on a mac. Additionally, you can run boot camp on a mac to run windows programs. Its mostly up to you as to what laptop you want to buy. As for recommendations, I would suggest getting a Lenovo or an Apple, but only because of their reliability.

You can connect to caen using the vnc software which works for both mac and pc. So it really doesnt matter

A lot more engineers have mac’s than you’d think. I do. it’s fine

Thanks for the advice, I’m leaning toward a Mac, but I’ve had people say it’s wrong to go with it over a PC in engineering.

There is nothing wrong with a Mac in Engineering. A lot of engineering students have a mac and there is nothing wrong with it.

Just don’t get a Mac…

why not…give some backup here as to why a Mac won’t work for an engineer…
