Laptop from University or Discount Store

My son's university bookstore has an in-house computer store that sells laptops for more than the cost in a discount store. They stress that they sell versions that are more durable, and they provide on-site repairs as part of a pre-paid maintenance contract, they provide free loaners during repairs.

Anyone have any thoughts on pros or cons?

Usually the pros of buying a laptop at the college store are:

 1. Ease of purchase
 2. Bundled package. This is probably the thing that you’re mentioning. The bundle usually costs more but you can get “free software” (which you paid for in the bundle…), free antivirus, a warranty, and free repairs.

For a normal college student this is probably more convenient since he won’t have to deal with too much techie stuff.
If your son is a techie… even slightly tech savvy, I think you should buy a laptop separately. You can usually get everything that bundle offers for LESS. You just have to do some shopping.
Every manufacturer has warranties and repair service. You just have to send it in instead of having on-site repairs.
