Laptop help? Engineering student on a budget

Hey guys, so I was browsing laptops on the microsoft store website and found this: Buy HP Pavilion dv6-6c53nr, 15.6 inch entertainment notebook pc, Intel Core i5 processor, WiDi, HDMI - Microsoft Store Online which is $800 and is a pretty nice laptop for the price and I could sell the xbox it comes with for about $150 although the gaming on it isn't the best.
However, I found this REALLY nice Asus for the same price with even better specs: Micro Center - ASUS R500VM-MS71 15.6" Laptop Computer - Mocha R500VM-MS71
It won't come with an xbox though but it's such a great laptop for the price.
Are there any other laptops you guys would recommend? around $800-$900 is my spending max (not including tax hehe). And also, I talked a lot about the gaming but I don;t care about it all that much. Like I won't be inside all night playing wow or skyrim. Just some cod, gta, battlefield. I can bring my xbox if I really need to. And I'm majoring in chemical engineering. Help please!

What you should buy is a computer with an absolutely crappy graphics card (but fast processor) - forces you in some cases to not play video games.

If you want a good quality laptop you can get a business class machine like the Thinkpad.

Make an account here
[Barnes and Noble Gold | Lenovo | (US)](http://shoplenovo.i2.com/SEUILibrary/controller/Lenovo:EnterStdAffinity?affinity=barnesnoblegold&ConfigContext=StdAffinityPortal)

And then you can check the prices.

Terenc, not gonna lie, thats a pretty good idea but like I’ve never played anything on pc and some of my friends do and say its a lot better than xbox so I really wanna play on pc. And i mean, im gonna have some down time and at the college im gonna be going to a lotta ppl game so…But yea schoolwork def comes first…
And del_psi I’ll be sure to do that

Our kiddo (engineering) waited until orientation at his college to buy a new laptop so he’d have a good idea of what the school recommended for his major and it would be newer than if he had bought it a year earlier. He bought an HP Elitebook with a 3 year onsite repair warranty. It has served him well for the past 3.5 years and hopefully he will graduate with it.
