Is a laptop computer necessary at Cornell or will a desktop suffice? I will be a trasnferring junior into AEM.

Laptops are definately helpful in that you can carry one wherever you go. However, they aren't completely necessary. If you can't afford a laptop and have a desktop, you certainly won't have any problems sticking with your desktop. As I've stated before, laptops do come in handy in allowing you to access the wireless networks on campus and work essentially anywhere on campus.

I had a desktop last year and it was fine. It was nice to have a 20" screen and a comfortable keyboard and mouse. Most kids who have laptops rarely take them from their rooms anyway. However, some students do use their laptops to take notes, and they are easier to take home with you on breaks.

I'd recommend a laptop also if you have many roomates, especially noisy ones, and you need to do your studying in the library 100% of the time.

thanks guys hopefully ill have a single room in the transfer center so my desktop should work out ok thankss
