Hello all,

I am about to go in to College first-time this fall as a Clinical Lab Science major. This fall I will be taking Functional Bio w/ Lab, General Chem 1 w/ Lab and College Alegbra. CLS is considered a Health Profession but my science course are under the science majors. So my question is how often are laptops needed in these classes? I'm guessing not to often in the lab class but what about in the lecture classes? Is it more useful to write notes on paper or beneficial to use laptop.

I would say go with a computer. Easier to read most of the time. But in case your computer bricks you definitely want to keep your notes in a flash drive.

Needed during class? Never. Some people choose to take notes on a laptop, others don’t. Matter of preference. Personally, I prefer pen and paper. It’s mostly up to you. Research shows that physically writing your notes helps you retain the information better, and this has always been my experience.

This is probably a dumb question, but professors don’t care what you take notes on, or even if you take notes at all right?

i would rather right on paper, the computer makes your hands and eyes tired, its also a very distracting device. studies have shown that writing with pen and paper is more better at memory than typing

I take notes on paper. I tried taking notes on my laptop one time, and I absolutely hated it.

Having a laptop or computer is important in college though. You won’t need it in class at all in my experience, unless you’re taking programming classes or something that really does directly involve computers.

Many classes have online components these days. You’ll have online discussion boards, online gradebooks, you’ll often submit assignments online. It’s an important part of the college routine in many cases.

I wouldn’t go without my laptop in college, even though I don’t use it when I’m physically in class.
