It depends. If you have a computer right now, and you're cool with that, then I'd wait. If you need a portable notebook to carry with you to school / library, then you should buy a laptop.

I got a laptop as a sophomore myself. It was a Christmas present though, so I didn't expect it.

Wait. You're going to want the latest technology when you go to college. Everyone else will have really cool features and you'll be stuck with your lame 06 model.

Thank you very much for the help I think I might wait for prices to go down and the technology to improve. Dont want to have a lame 06 model :)

Get one now. But get a cheap one so that you won't have any qualms giving it away or getting rid of it when you go to college. Laptops don't last you more than 3 years, for PC's and I can't comment on the quality of Macs as I never used them.

I guess if you have money to spare you could get a cheap one now, but make sure you get a new one when you go to college.

It also depends on what model/software you have right now.

I really dont have money to spare. I think Ill buy a good one when I go to college. Are there any specifications certain colleges have for their comps?

I don't think so. I've never heard of any.
