laptop prices at the store

i think we can get a "university discount" when buying laptops, right? does anyone know how much they are and their specs (CPU, RAM, graphics card, etc.)?

sorry if u can find this somewhere online, im trying!

I found the Uchicago store to be incredibly worthless for ordering my computer. In addition to this, the "University Discount" at Dell is a rip off, as other coupon codes can get you a cheaper system without the University Discount. Bottom line, my suggestion is to go straight to HP or Dell. I built a fairly good performance laptop (2.4 ghz P duocore, 256mb nvidia 8600GT, 160gb 7200rpm HD, 2g ram) on HP for sub 2,000 dollars, and that was weeks ago so prices have probably dropped. Though you should consider waiting until August to order your computer, as by then prices will have dropped and parts will be better. Good luck.

I think Mac gives student discounts directly... I had a friend who had a college ID (even though he wasn't a student there, just a lab intern), and he was able to get a student discount on his Mac... the only problem with that is that you get your UCID only when you come to campus...

I had a friend who made use of her college student discount by carrying her acceptance letter with her to museums and such.

If you're getting a Mac, go to an Apple store (or order online). I'm not sure about the other companies. I don't think there's an advantage to buying at the Chicago store.

I got the college student prices and deals at an Apple store. The guy said he needed any proof I was a student. I logged on to my email account where it says "The University of Chicago" at the top, and that was fine for them.

I bought a MacBook Pro from the UoC Apple store on Apple.com. $200 discount, plus the nano (and a free printer). Just keep in mind having to pay sales tax, there are other online stores that aren't in the US, so no tax so things may be cheaper. There is always MacMall.com and I think PCMall.com
