laptop problem

I have a problem with my laptop. Yesterday I turned it on and all of a sudden my whole screen was twice as big. I tried to changed it in "properities" and it went back smaller, however it still looks strange in a way and not how it used to be, the backgroung is still big.
I also cant watch any movies or doing things, it tells me I should reduce my Colour quality or something like that or again that screen size. But I dont know how to do it, I have only two options with the size i want in those properities.
Can anyone help me? I am not good with computers at all, Im not sure if i described it clearly, but I hope someone has the idea about what I am talking about.
I would be very thankful for anyone's advice.

What brand of computer? If you have HP, I can probably help you.

Right click on desktop, go to properties. Change your display resolution until you have it where it looks normal. Make sure color quality is set to 32 bit in that same box.

You probably have some combination of spyware/viruses because there is no fathomable way for that to happen without some sort of external influence.

I have Siemens Fujitso brand and it also something else starts with A...
Yes i do think i have some viruses it kept telling me that i have some threats.
Thank you very much for your help, I will try it right now and tell you if it worked!

Ok I tried to do what you told me Epsilon, but i realized that i have done it already before. I do have a choice betweem 32 bit and 16 so i put 32 bit like you told me. And on display resolution i have only got two choices which is 1024x768 and it is small but looks strange and doesnt allow me to watch movies etc. and 800x600 which increases the screen even more. Is there any way i can choose anything else???
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!!
Oh yes i also checked and my anti virus said i got trojan or something like that, but how can i get rid of it? Because i cant connect my laptop to internet in that area and my anti virus needs to be prolonged or something.
Please can someone help i really dont understand much in computers!
Laptop name is Fujitsu Siemens (Amilo)

You need to update your antivirus software and run a clean, full system scan.

As for the display resolution, if those are your only two choices, then your video drivers are probably hosed too.

You need to learn more about your computer, because if you continue running it without changing your habits and skill level you are liable to get viruses, spyware, and all sorts of crap running on your computer because you are on a college campus network.

Maybe head to your school's IT department and figure it out.

Oh no we dont have any network around school at all. How can I update my anti virus system, is it possible to do so without going online?
And if I run whole clean full system scan, will i have more choices on my video drivers, will it be back to normal?
I dont want to restart whole windows system all over.
And i did run a system but with my other anitvirus program and it said its clean, but the one which needs an update it says i have trojan threat. It is confusing.
But yes i might just see the IT department!

The Fujitsu Amilo laptops are not sold in the US. The Amilo line has screen sizes ranging from 12” -17”. Depending on your screen size, your laptop uses either video supplied by your laptop’s motherboard or by a separate video card.

It would be helpful to know which operating system you are running (XP or Vista) and your model number (or at least your screen size). I’m presuming that you have a new laptop.

As already noted, under Properties, 1024x768 is the standard default setting for most, though not all displays. Instead of 32 bit, set it to 16 bit and see if that improves your screen.

You can also go to Control Panel, click on System, select Hardware and Device Manager and click on “Display Adaptor”. Your Display Adaptor type will appear. Right click and select “properties”. The dialog box will tell you if the video device driver is working properly. If you get a message saying there is a problem, report back.

My questions to you are: did your laptop screen look normal and play movies when you first got it? Did you recently install any new software to your laptop?

Thank you michuncle, I will try it tonight again, it is acting weird now and my screen is just black/off, but i will see if its working by checking Control Panel, because i already did chance it on 16bit and 32 bit and it didnt help.
I have Windows XP on it. I bought this laptop in summer and its just been acting strange. No didnt install any new software, i remember deleting some program, but it was just annoying cause it came up each time i put it on. But i think it has nothing to do with it, because that program was my blackberry software. Im not sure... i will try and see what the display adaptor says.

Download Lavasoft AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Spyware Blaster. I don't know what antivirus or firewall software you have, but I recommend the free ZoneAlarm firewall. I've heard great things about AOL Active Virus Shield free antivirus (it's not actually by AOL, it's from Kaspersky, which is a very good company). Download, update, and scan with these programs.

First off though I'd recommend using system restore (to a date when everything worked) and see if that works.

Otherwise also download a program called HijackThis... run a scan. Do not delete anything with it though, it doesn't specifically look for spyware, but rather shows all kinds of important information about your computer. Go to a forum like <a href="http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum22.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum22.html</a> and post the log that HijackThis gives you... the people there can tell you what it all means.

Also clear all cookies and cache in your internet browsers. Download and use Firefox if you don't already. Don't use internet explorer. Also clear your computer's temp files, go to Add/Remove Programs via the Start Menu|Control Panel and see if there are any programs that shouldn't be there. Look them up on Google if you're not sure. Remove any that could be spyware/malware.

And run Windows/Microsoft Update and get all critical updates.

Your best bet in terms of viruses/trojans/spyware is prevention. It can be a pain to remove persistent malware.

Thank you very much, i will copy all the information down and try to sort it out. It got so strange somehow. I will tell how it worked after!!!

Dver, this is what Major Geeks says...

<a href="http://www.majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=20%5B/url%5D">http://www.majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=20</a></p>

And, I think that Gold Shadow is right on the money, really. I am just posting a link to free stuff, like Ad Aware and the like. I also recommend AVG Free.

The major geeks web site has forums and stuff and most folks are nice over there. Also, please do as Gold Shadow says and use a forum to learn about Hijack This, because that is a powerful program.

Good luck to you, Dver.

(^_^)

Hi guys. OK i wanted to try all what you told me, but when i turned my computer on it was so strange! When it was starting it seemed normal, but then the screen wouldnt turn on and it just stays black, i can hear all the happening and sounds but the screen doesnt want to turn on.
Then i tried some things with it. I turned it off and then on again and while it was starting i pressed F1. And then it allowed me to go to a "extra modus". And then everything looked normal I saw all my programs on the the screen but the backgroung was just black. Then I tried to turn on Video and the screen went big again. So i switched computer off and then it was all the same the screen just stayed black unless I press F1. I tried it few times that way and the computer sometiems doesnt want to function when i press F1 anymore to the "extra modus".
Does anyone know how can i restart whole system all over again???? I dont care if all my programs and games will be lost, i just want it back to normal. How can I start completly new system from how it was at the beginning!?
Please someone help!!!!

Hey everyone. I want to thank all of you for the information. I did go to that forum and saw a lot of complaints about that computer!
However I stopped trying and went to the IT department, they fixed it for me. They said that I deleted my graphic card!!! I dont know how i managed to do it, but they put a new one.
I have also delete my whole account. I thought if i do so, it will work again, but i was wrong. Do you still think I will have my mosic, movies and games on it and they might stay somewhere...I hope its not all gone.
But anyway, thank you very much guys for your helP!
