Is there any specific brand or model of laptops that is recommended for Penn State students?

I was thinking of getting a MacBook pro before I go up to college

I think campus wide they use Microsoft OS more. But you should chk w/ your major dept. Anyway I intended to get the MacBook pro as well (can switch iOS & Win OS). Don’t forget you can get student discount of $100 off on the MacBooks. (chk out the PSU bookstore website).

In general, it makes no difference as to what laptop you use. Check with the specifics of whatever major you are interested in to see which operating system they prefer. For example, my D2, an architecture major, is using a MacBook Pro, which is strongly recommended (but not mandatory!) for that major. If she were an engineering major, she’d probably be using a laptop with a Windows-based operating system.

I am going for an engineering major and I plan to get a macbook pro, nowadays CAD programs work natively on Mac OSX so you don’t need to use bootcamp.

Yeah it doesn’t matter. I’m an engineering student and I know lots of people with both types. Plus there are computer labs on campus entirely devoted to a certain software so you don’t even need to worry about having it on your computer. For example, there’s an AutoCAD lab, a SolidWorks lab, a photoshop lab, etc.
