Hey all. I pretty much have my heart set on the macbook as my laptop for next year. I'm gonna be at engineering, and I was just curious if anyone has any comments regarding macs in engineering, at Cornell, etc. Thanks!

For the most part the MacBooks will be able to function very well next year at Cornell. They are, however, still making sure the Intel Macs can function with all the necessary software/networks/etc. If I were you, I would contact the school of engineering directly and ask what the situatiuon is regarding the Intel Macs and their software.

I purchased a MacBook this past Tuesday, and it will be arriving this Monday or Tuesday and I am really pumped for that. They are great computers, are compatable with the campus in general, and are extremely reliable. You can not go wrong with the Mac in itself, but just be extra sure about your purchase and contact Engineering directly. I know I would hate to have to return my computer because of some stupid little issue with compatability with software or something like that.

Note There really shouldn't be any issues becasue you can run Windows on the Intel Macs (including MacBooks).

Thanks for the feedback man. I went to the apple store at my local mall today and got a quote on the macbook pro. I am extremely pumped as well. Hooray for macs!

No problem. My MacBook Pro came today via FedEx. Holy crap, you will love it!

Is it true that you can get a discount with a student id?

yep...Apple gives a discount if u flash ur Cornell student id.

Go to the cornell store website, and then click their link to the apple store. You can get a discount automatically online.

the question is, HOW THE HELL DO I GET A CHEAP IBM LAPTOP, they are so frigging expensive.

Isn't a cheap IBM laptop an oxymoron?

Thinkpads? They're not made by IBM anymore.

ThinkPads are made by Lenovo - as they always have been. Lenovo acquired the brandname from IBM last year. You should be able to get a 30-32% student discount. The new T-60's are great.

Can we get a student discount even though we haven't received our student id's yet?
