Laptop sleeve & Backpack VS Laptop Backpack

Just wondering what the best choice would be since I'm buying a new backpack and I most likely will be taking my laptop around campus with me. If anyone owns one of the options, is it more convenient and safe for you?

i just put my laptop in my normal backpack, no problems...

computer backpack is great. I use both however

^ So do I-it's nice/convenient/not necessary to have both.

I'm debating the same thing right now. I don't want to have to buy a whole new backpack, so I'm probably just gonna get the sleeve and stick my laptop into one of my backpack's compartments. I'm just worried it might get damaged...

I used a sleeve all through high school and there wasn't any damage- any of the dents to my dell's frame came from when I was being lazy and didn't use the sleeve.
I'll probably be doing the same as a frosh this year.
You should always remember to not slam your bag on the ground though...

I use a Jansport pink laptop backpack - same one I've been using for the last 2-3 years. It fits my laptop nicely.

I think those shoulder bags stink, so I opt for the ol' trusty Jansport book bag every time. It works fine.

I had one of those iPack messenger bags for laptops and it was a pain. My shoulder/back would often hurt due to the unequal distribution of weight. Now I just use my backpack and a sleeve, and it works great. Sometimes I'm lazy and I forget the sleeve, so that's the only time that I get scratches on my computer. Backpacks with the built in laptop compartment tend to be rather bulky, and they might not even protect all sides of the computer.

I prefer a backpack and a sleeve. I have a North Face backpack and a sleeve made by SF Bags (SFBags - WaterField Designs - Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bags - MacBook Air Sleeve - Laptop Bag - Laptop Sleeve - Computer Sleeve - Ipod Accessory - Camera Case - PSP Case - Wallets) and my laptop's doing fine. I don't really like laptop backpacks because they usually scream that there's expensive stuff inside and they're bulky.

I'll throw in a plug for Manhattan Portage bags. These things last forever.

I love my backpack (a two-year-old Jansport) because it has two huge pockets and it can be as big or as small as I need it to be, depending on what stuff I have in it. I decided not to buy a laptop backpack because they are pretty expensive, so I just stuck with mine and bought one of those Macbook sleeves they sell at the Apple Store. It works pretty well.

If there's a custom backpack for your laptop, then there's no need for a sleeve. If you're using a computer backpack that has a suspension system, there's no need for a sleeve. The suspension system prevents damage when you put the backpack down on the ground harshly.

The sleeves are really for backpacks that weren't designed specifically to hold computers.

make sure that you shut your computer off when youre transporting it though -- the hard drive will be running otherwise and its really easy for a headcrash to occur with all the jostling of walking

I think I'll go with a messenger bag without a sleeve. I can deal with the back pain and it just feels more convenient to hang at the side than at the back.

How do you like this? It has the built in laptop sleeve I'm just worried b/c I have a thinkpad that has this big battery jutting out the back of it and I'm not sure if it will fit in the sleeve. Also at the target in my town the bag was $40.

I was trying to find a cute laptop backpack but was having a hard time. Any help?

Check out Best Buy. They're having a sale now where you can get a really good laptop backpack for $10. It's instore only though, so you'd have to actually go there.

should i buy jansport superbreak or platform?
i use sleeve for my 15'4" laptop.
ill bring maybe 1/2 other textbooks + a note book.

i bought a laptop backpack but it was a pain since my 15.4" barely fit in it and pulling it in and out sucked. i think it was a jansport superbreak... :/

still using my handy pink northface jester from high school with a pink laptop sleeve. in class, i can just balance the sleeve on my lap and put the laptop on it aswell, so it's easier. sometimes i don't want to lug a backpack to class aswell, so slipping it in a sleeve and then throwing it in a tote with a notebook always works great.

cs08carolina-my laptop has a large battery too and that's another reason why I'm getting a messenger bag. They seem to have more space and I won't have the battery sticking out into my back while I'm wearing it.
