Which laptop would you suggest for mechanical engineering at Berkeley? I am trying to decide between a MacBook Pro or a Lenovo T420. Will there be compatability issues with the Mac, the OS. Or do many engineers at Cal use Macs? Let me know, Thanks!

Lenovo T420. I myself use the T400 and having windows os is much better for matlab and other programs you will download depending on your major.

I’ve never had a problem running Matlab on Mac, but other programs might be a different story.

i think its up to personal choice eventually… u can always bootcamp windows on a mac. I personally use a VAIO SA which is an excellent ultraportable =)

Get the Lenovo. Macs are way overpriced.

Okay great. It sounds like the Lenovo T420 is the way to go. I have always used PCs so that is probably what i am going to go with! Thanks!

barroo: I also recently ordered a T420. What wireless card did you choose - the ThinkPad b/g/n or Centrino 1000 (assuming you chose one of the no-additional-cost cards)?

Dell Precision ftw =D

For EECS do you think I’ll be okay if I have a desktop in my dorm and a tablet (running Windows 7) to take notes?
