Hi
While I have always used Windows, I’m open to Mac and while price is not a concern I’m not sure the overprice is worth it. On the other hand my current laptop is 17’’ and I feel that I won’t be able to see well with anything less than 15’’.
Any suggestions? I don’t have any particular preference I have had some problems HP.
For CS, using mac os Linux is preferable to Windows. Programming in Windows is a pain.
Carrying around a 17" laptop all the time isn’t a lot of fun, so it go with 15".
In terms of brands, a really solid and popular one for PCs is Lenovo ThinkPads. Specifically the T series. I have a T440p and I’m quite happy with it. There’s an option for a full HD IPS screen which is really nice. Lenovo’s computers are also very Linux compatible if you decide to try that out.
Agreed with above. If you’re willing to put in a little effort to learn the OS, Linux is perfect for programming. And +1 for Thinkpads.
I would have a nice large (21" maybe?) monitor mounted in the dorm room so you can work comfortably “at home,” in addition to the 15" native screen.
^ I’ll also second that. I got a 21" full HD monitor (definitely get an IPS display) and external keyboard/mouse for my room. Much more real estate for programming.
Hey!
Thanks for the suggestions!
I was looking at the Thinkpad T440s, T540p or the X1 Carbon.
The X1 and 440s seem lighter yet the 540p has a bigger screen though it does look bulky.
Would an i7 core be overkill or would an i5 suffice? I ask since it is a $350 upgrade
Thanks
I decided not to drop the extra dough for an i7, and have been perfectly happy with an i5. I don’t do hardcore gaming, and the biggest limiting spec for that would likely be the graphics anyway. I suppose my programs might compile slightly faster with the i7, but not $350 faster.
