what laptop should I get for emory other than mac? I really dont want to spend $1000 so anything under $600 is great. what brand is the best?

I just got an HP dm4-1600us for $550 + tax. It has the “mac” look but runs Windows 7 (it is also much more powerful than a mac) and still has a smaller screen but good performance. Check it out

Check out this sony vaio, very dependable. I would say Asus (rising fast in dependability department), sony, or toshiba would be the best brands. I would stay away from dell and compaq, I’ll also had iffy reviews on HP from friends.

Also another tip I would give is, don’t buy the microsoft office pakage for $300+, you could simply download OpenOffice for free, it’s 100% compatible with Microsoft.
