do students carry thier laptop all day in campus? or you leave it in your dorm when you will not use it?

Some students do and some don’t. From my experience as an Econ major, North Campus majors (Humanities) are more likely to carry around their computer than South campus majors (Math and Science).

The reason North Campus majors carry their computers often is because they don’t want to print out or lug around obnoxiously lengthed reading materials. For South campus majors, computers aren’t that great for taking math notes or denoting the Greek alphabet that often crop up.

I’d say even at the most prevalent lecture hall/classrooms, <50% of students bring their computer. It’s usually more of a distraction than a help. Most students end up browsing Facebook on their computers rather than taking notes.

so, in general, most students left their computers in their rooms?

That’s correct. Especially for science/engineering, it usually just isn’t worth bringing to lecture on a regular basis.

You will probably get a wide range of answers this depending on who you ask.

I’d say north campus students are generally more likely to carry their laptop around, since its more practical for their classes.

It really depends on what type of person you are and what kind of schedule you have. If I have a couple breaks in between classes, I would bring my laptop to school to use during these breaks. I know others preferred to just use the computer lab that is also available on campus.

Its not really that big of a hassle to bring a laptop, since you probably won’t be bringing much stuff to campus usually. In a lot of my classes I had a PDF version of the textbook in my laptop, so it made it preferable to bring my laptop rather than 2-3 textbooks.

Also, I found it very convenient to use my laptop to record the audio during the lecture in case I missed something. Not all classes will be podcasted, so recording it myself helped me really listen rather than try to write down what the professor was saying. Some professors are surprisingly anal about people recording their lecture, but they will probably never find out if you are recording anyway.

do you use laptop lock if you leave it in your room?

You should use a laptop lock anytime you leave your laptop unattended.

That said, my roommates and I left our room unlocked for an entire weekend and nothing was taken. Yay for socially dead plazas.

I used to bring my laptop with me in my roller backpack everywhere I went.
