Laptop

Hi guys, I really need some help picking out a laptop for my freshman year. despite the research I have done, I don't know what specifications I should be looking at...I mean screen sizes, battery life, processor etc etc. I am only going to be using the laptop for internet use, word processing, excel....and the occasional movies and games (but not too much). I am definitely not interested in a Macbook, so any suggestions guys? What specs I should look for or models in particular? Greatly appreciated. I don't want anything too fancy nor anything too basic. Thanks!

At least 1GB RAM. For a moderate-sized screen, 13"-15" wide would probably be fine.
