I heard rumors about the new Macbooks that will be launched this yr. So, I went to the apple store near my home, asked couple of guys who work there, and they said that they weren't aware that the new ones were coming out. They instead told me that the old ones might stick around for a bit. Is this true? Anybody has a link or something that shows when the new macbooks will be out? Also, how much discount can I get thru Cornell. Thanks.

uhh...as one who occasionally browses tech blogs like Engadget and TUAW, I'd look around the boards on mac rumors or something similar. I think that new macbooks are on the horizon; however, the current macbook seems to be a pretty capable performer. as for student discounts (someone correct me if i'm wrong), I think that if you have a .edu email address, you are eligible for $100 off on the macbook and $200 on the macbook pro. i was looking around on the cornell store, and it seems like if you buy through them, you get an extra $50 off on top of the $100 or $200.

I sometimes doubt the Mac sales people know anything. I went to the Mac store in Syracuse to buy a new iPod...but first I asked if anything new was coming out and they said no. Well....2 days later the new iPod nano came out. Oh well....I like mine more.

there is the new mac airbook (sp)

while cornell is working to make all their applications compatible with macs and vista, you cant go wrong with good old XP SP2 <3

Well...the most important Cornell application-JTF and all of its goodies-is compatible with Leopard and Vista.

vista is the 21st century's version of WINDOWS ME...

my vaio came with vista and as soon as the 1yr mnfg warranty was up i converted to xp ^_^

I wouldn't trust anything any salesperson says. If you don't think a new one is coming out anytime soon you are more likely to buy which is probably why the told you that, plus they are probably clueless about it too. Same with the people at bestbuy, for the most part they are college students that don't know all that much about electronics.

dont get the air. it isnt practical at all for college students
