Does Cornell give laptops to its students or do they have to get one... if so what model do they provide... i have a Presario - 2200 laptop...would that suffice for Cornell's work

I just got a dell XPS. I'm happy so far we'll see though

i might bring my desktop and a laptop... and use the laptop just for papers and stuff, but my desktop for just about anything else since ive put mine on steroids

lol... I am getting a Mac PowerBook G4. I can't wait. I love the macs (I guess that's my artsy side coming through). I was also thinking about bringing a desktop, but I don't think I really want to bother with one unless I have my own (permanent) space in an apartment. It seems like it would be a pain in the @$$ to set up every time you need to move into/out of the dorms.

i have a toshiba

"I am getting a Mac PowerBook G4."

I have one. It's the love of my life. If I were you I'd wait to buy until the powerbooks get the Intel processors--faster, cheaper, smaller--next year.

Yeah, They're AMAZING computers... I've been trying to find a release date for the new processors... I want it before next fall, and with Apple's track record, I dunno if it will be released in time... they usually release new items in mid-fall... Unless they release them in Spring/Summer which would be SWEET. Do you know of anywhere I could get this info? That would be much appreciated.

I'm debating whether to get the 15" or 17"... The only reason I wouldn't upgrade to the big one is cuz I will be paying for the damned thing, lol. What's your input bongoboy?

you could install osX86 on an intel laptop (dell, hp, etc.) of course, to do it legally, you'd have to be a developer :P

On a sidenote. bongoboy is right. the intel macs are blazing. they rock. I'll probably get one when I can afford it. it'll be my first mac ever. lol.

well there's not going to be a 12 inch model anymore. only 15s and 17s. I couldn't dream of buying a laptop as big as the 17.

http://thinksecret.com/news/0512yonah.html for the latest rumor on release dates.

check out the rest of that site for any more info. these people are currently being sued by apple for being good at what they do. I don't think there predictions have ever been wrong.

That's a sweet website, thanks dude! I think i will be going with the 15" due to financial and practicality reasons... The 17" is friggin huge...

any laptop that's good enought to quickly load programs to type papers, check emails, and open pdf files is good enough for school work. So your compaq would work fine, though I'm not familiar with the model numbers, but I'm assuming it would be fine.

If you're looking for a new laptop, I would highly recommend the IBM T43 (you can even buy one through the school store if you want, not sure if it's the best deal through them though). It cost's a bit more than other laptops with comparable features. . . but the thing is built like a tank, not a single problem with it for the 7 months I've had it so far.

Can't live without built-in wireless and bluetooth :D

wishes he could think ahead to what he would bring to Cornell

canadaeh- think about bringing a keyboard for the band...........

blackferarri - think about getting me into Cornell . . . lol
(need all the help I can get)

man if i get in, i'll freaking bring my yamaha grand

haha that'll fit well in your room

dell xps m170 all the way

im thinking an acer ferrari--its a sexy laptop, it looks like the sexy car =p omg random story but i was out w/ my friend in nyc around 50-60th streets and Park and Madison, and we totally saw the insane maserati and ferrari showroom it was sweet ok back to laptops

oh yeah! thats a **** cool laptop...cool colour...cool everythin

yah its cool like you arjun
