Laptops at Stern

Are there any specific laptops current students at Stern would recommend? How often are laptops actually used, and do most people take them to class, etc? Also, what size laptop would you recommend?

I heard from my cousin (who is a Stern grad student) that laptops are not allowed in lecture halls.

Can anyone confirm if this is true for undergrads?

LOL. every. single. person. in my video game class has a mac laptop.

i’ve used mac laptops in all of my classes where it made sense. and they were in lecture halls in Stern.

you don’t see many sternies with macs. i’m probably going to get a dell latitude.

maybe it’s a Steinhardt thing. but my classes are dominated by mac laptops. even all of my professors have macs.

probably. in a biz environment you don’t see macs. windows only. bloomberg terminal only works on windows i think, and it’s in every major financial corporation.

i just know that in my CAS classes (political theory, socialist theory, etc) people use laptops. i don’t see why Sternies would be forbidden to have laptops. they have their own private wireless network that non-Stern NYU students can’t even log onto.

a professor will explicitly state on the first day whether laptops are frowned upon.

I have a Macbook Pro and i’m in stern. I don’t find myself having any problems with it. Most people have Windows but a lot of us use Macs too.

I know that Stern recommends Dell Latitudes, but do most Sternies actually have Latitudes?

nah you see people with all different types of laptops. i’m getting a latitude not because it’s recommended by stern but because I’ve had one for the past 3 years and it’s a very reliable machine.
