Laptops or desktops?

Do most kids at college have a laptop or a desktop?

do a search.... there have been many threads discussing this.

Generally, depends on the school but I think most are now favoring laptops

Laptops, easier to carry home and bring to school.

I think most still have desktops. They are cheaper and more powefull. Most people dont cary computers to class and are just fine working in their rooms.

Not that laptops are horrid or anything

Keep one thing in mind: You don't really need a lot of power to do most college homework unless you have a major or classes that require demanding programs.

My oldest brother is a music major and he has a cheap laptop.

I prefer desktops though..

Depending on what school you go to and what type of person you are, there might not be room for a desktop. I say laptop.

I'm doing both but then again it wouldnt be hard for me to convince myself to become a CS major. I'm bringing an Athlon-64 desktop thats got plenty of power and storage and will used for most things as well as a lease-return Thinkpad (that is better than a cheepo dell for the same price) thats running linux and can travel with me to the library and such as well as allowing me to do linux-work.

you know, i'm a junior in highskool and i have a desk-note....

it's the size of a laptop... but it's as powerful as a desktop...

... i have 4 other desktops at home, but i have larger CPU, largest RAM
and works faster than any of the other... and the other 4 pcs were
just bought off the market...

.. so you should look into that...
it's just that... unlike a laptop, my desk-note doesn't have an internal
batteries... so i have an external ones that weight about .7 lbs..
.. i'mma take this to college and on to my future jobs...

.. it's a beautiful babe....

I would chose a desktop. The reasoning? I would say, even though I'm not in college, that what would be the point in taking your laptop to class? You will probably jolt to yell, "Because I have to take notes." I mean I type alot faster than I can actually write, but I'd still take hand-written notes! What if you have to draw a table, or graph? Sure you can do it on the computer, but that takes time, and time that the professor won't give to you, just because you have to set up a chart or graph. Desktops are: cheaper and stronger (in terms of memory and speed).

I agree with glucose, I also don't think the professor or any students would appreciate the occasionally loud clatter of someone's fingers trying to keep up with lectures.

The ability to transport a laptop outside or to a library seems to be very appealing. But switching from my 19" LCD monitor is definitely going to be hard.

I don't know right now, but I am think about bring a laptop, a docking station, a nice large LCD monitor, keyboard, and mouse. The problem is I don't know if I'll have enough room.

I rarely take my laptop out. The only occassions are when I get tired studying in my dorm room and during long hours of work (as in job) in the library.
