Do people usually take notes on their laptops or notebooks during class?

There certainly are some people who do take notes on their computers, while most students write by hand. In some SMG classes, there were times when they asked everyone to bring in their laptops so we could use excel to assist us. So that certainly is an option if you don't feel like you can keep up if you write by hand.

depends on what class...

in SMG last year, probably 75% of the class brought laptops to lecture to take notes on (as well as probably surf the web as not to fall asleep), as all the lectures were in powerpoint, thus making it easier to take notes straight onto the powerpoint slides...

however in my writing and calculus classes, they were more discussion-based, or taught through examples written on the board, so we never needed to use laptops. my philosophy class, griswold told us blank out "if i see you typing away on a laptop while i am lecturing, i will assume you are not paying attention!" soo yeah, it depends on the course / professor.

laptop = notebook > pc

definitely depends on the class you'll figure it out

Most classes, no. Some professors don't let you, especially with the clacking sound of typing.
