Laptops

Do most people use Laptops in university, like for actually writing notes? What size screen do people mostly use? I like 17" for home, but is this too big for school? What is the most convienient size. Also, what classes need laptop and which would not? Any other tips on buying a laptop?

I was initially considering getting a 17 inch laptop since its closer to the 21" monitor I used at home. However, I ordered a 15.4" and its just the right size. 17 inches means that you sacrifice portability. You wont be able to bring your laptop to class, or at least it would be kind of painful to do so because it would simply be too heavy.

I have a 17" laptop and carrying it around isn't an issue for me at all. It's the Apple PowerBook G4, so it's about as light as 17" laptops get.

I use my laptop for taking notes during humanities classes (psych and English). I took notes the old-fashioned way during math classes for obvious reasons.

Having laptops comes in handy for programming classes because you can work on assignments anywhere you want, not just in your room or in a lab.

Beware the trap of getting distracted by doing stuff on your laptop during classes. I fell into this quite frequently.
