Does anybody plan to bring a laptop to take notes during class?

nope, I'm upgrading the heck out of my current pc instead

Yeah, I'm planning on it. Can't decide between a mac or pc though....

Yep. Gonna be bringing my new Powerbook G4...yeah Mac!

i'm getting a laptop to bring with me, though i'm not sure how much i'll use it in class. hopefully plenty, being as i generally find it much easier to type notes than to write them (faster and less stressful). regardless of whether i use it in class or not, however, having a laptop will be a great convenience.

you really don't need to buy a laptop...the professors seem to prefer that students use notebooks. they realize that most kids with laptops in class just go on AIM or read NYTimes, so it may actually hurt their impression of you.

I find hand-writing notes to more effective, especially when I draw doodles and curve the letters along with my thoughts, so when I read it, my recall is better, weird but it works

steveistutor: that's really kind of disappointing, but also makes some sense. of course, the teachers should be able to tell (at least to some extent) whether you're taking notes or doing other things by where you're looking, how much you're typing, etc... that's another issue, too-- the typing might make noise and be a bother. damn. well, i guess i'll still be able to use the laptop elsewhere if not in the classroom.

videogamer: handwriting is effective for me, but i don't remember nearly as much as i do if i'm taking notes with a computer, because i can get more content down faster AND keep my attention on what the prof is currently saying instead of contstantly trying to remember what he just said. i often find myself playing catch-up when i take notes by hand. but, to each his own...
